Royal Marines – Project REGAIN

Turning a human problem into organisational change

  • The challenge
Within the Royal Marines, traditional approaches to mental-health support were not always reaching people early enough. The challenge was to create a system that personnel trusted, could access easily and would actually use.
  • The approach
Mo Morris conceived and led Project REGAIN, introducing a more accessible approach built around self-referral, peer support and early intervention. Rather than treating the issue solely as a medical problem, the work focused on changing the environment around the individual and reducing barriers to seeking support.
  • The impact
REGAIN helped reshape the Royal Marines’ approach to mental health and contributed to the development of a wider Human Performance capability across the Royal Navy. The work was recognised with an MBE and, most importantly, helped create a system designed to intervene earlier and save lives.
  • Agile Edge in practice:
Understand the real problem → challenge the existing system → design something people will use → embed lasting change.
